Ehsaan Shivarani is a musical director, composer and human being based in London.

Ehsaan is a musical director, pianist, singer, composer, arranger, orchestrator, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, podcaster and human being living in London.

He trained as a geophysicist at Imperial College London and then as a meteorologist at The University of Reading, before deciding to pursue a career in music in 2019. He quickly landed a role as the Associate Musical Director of THE CHOIR OF MAN where he worked in the USA, London and onboard the NCL Encore and Escape cruise ships, before studying an MA in Musical Direction and Coaching at The Royal Academy of Music from 2020-21. Since then, he has gone on to MD a wide range of new productions across a number of cities in the UK, as well as abroad. He is currently the Associate Musical Director on TINA: THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL at the Aldwych Theatre in London’s West End.

He has recently composed and musically produced a new pop-punk musical with fellow Royal Academy of Music and Techtonics alumnus Tom Blacket, titled LOVE FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES. The show was quickly picked up by award-winning producer Ameena Hamid (Best Producer: The Wiz - BBTAs 2022), and will be workshopped in 2023.

Ehsaan is also a regular singer with London Voices, having recorded a number of projects with them at AIR Studios and Abbey Road Studios, and working with artists such as Jacob Collier.

Ehsaan has Iranian, Chinese and Portuguese heritage, and grew up in the UK with strong American and Canadian family influences – a diverse upbringing which exposed him to a huge array of experiences, musical styles and ways of thinking. He has vast experience of musical direction, performance, composition and conducting in the world of musical theatre, as well as with a cappella groups and rock and jazz bands.

“Ehsaan’s calmness, positivity, and complete lack of ego make him invaluable, and a joy to have in a team. He has outstanding ears for harmony, immaculate perfect-pitch and a broad academic knowledge of music. I sincerely and whole-heartedly recommend him as a huge talent with exceptional skill, ambition, and work ethic. He has built excellent professional relationships with cast members and the creative team, who all thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I hope to work with him much more in the future” - JACK BLUME, Music Supervisor @ The Choir Of Man & Noise Boys

“From the moment I saw Ehsaan’s audition tape for the role of MD on our production of The Wiz I knew he’d be a perfect fit musically. His musicianship is off the scale. He has natural groove, chops for days, but also engages sensitively with the material, and with the ensemble knowing when to take the lead and when to support the texture. On top of that he’s smart, funny and worked with both the cast, and the band brilliantly. A natural leader, they all adored working with him, as did I and I’m grateful that he took care of the music in the way that he did.” - SEAN GREEN, Music Supervisor @ The Wiz

“I would jump at the chance to employ Ehsaan on any creative team in the future thanks to his expertise, skill and wonderfully gentle and encouraging way of working with performers and collaborating with other creatives. We had a company of 14 performers with a rather dynamic range of experience including first-time graduates, those who had never trained, and experienced professionals. Throughout a fairly complicated rehearsal process (complicated by covid infections, and operating across two cities) Ehsaan remained upbeat, sensitive to the needs of the room and the team, encouraging and always patient and brought these 14 diverse voices together with aplomb. Ehsaan is a complete pleasure to work with, diligent and meticulous in his approach yet always allowing for the fun and joy in collaboration. It goes without saying that he is supremely talented as an MD and musician” - MATTHEW XIA, Director @ The Wiz

“His skills as a keyboard player are second-to-none, and his musicality, sight-reading and improvising skills are also excellent. He worked brilliantly with the cast, offering solid vocal technique and health advice, whilst also arranging very well written vocal harmonies. His working relationship with the band was also great, creating a fun yet professional environment. Above all, he is a friendly and hard-working person who will get the job done no matter what, whilst never losing his ‘cool’! I hope to work with Ehsaan again in the future” - SAM HALL, Music Supervisor @ Sevenoaks Panto

“His ability to command respect and authority in a rehearsal is superb, combined with his understanding of harmony and arrangement, his grasp on music and how to get the best out of a cast. To this day, I have rarely met someone with such musical talent, drive and creativity as Ehsaan. His piano playing skills remain probably the best of anyone I have worked with, and his flare to explore new and exciting musical genres and skills remains unwavering. Separately to his musical ability, Ehsaan is also remarkably compassionate, hard-working and inspirational as a leader “ - HENRY HARROD, Producer & Sound Engineer
